Rikki Tikki Tavi Short Story

This is the heroic Rikki Tikki Tavi story of the swell war which was fought unmarried-handedly by him throughout the big bungalow and garden of Segowlee. One day, a summer flood washes a young mongoose named Rikki Tikki Tavi away from his family. He'south found and revived past a British family living in India. The family adopts the orphaned mongoose—or, more accurately, he decides to stick around.

Naturally curious and adventurous, Rikki-Tikki explores the family unit's garden the side by side twenty-four hours. There he meets a Darzee, a tailor bird who is mourning his infant bird's death at the hands of Naag. As he asks who Naag is he is instantly introduced to the big, black cobra. He also meets Nag's wife Nagaina, so that'southward two cobras for the toll of 1.

Having missed their take chances at a surprise attack, the cobras simply slither off, and Rikki-Tikki goes to hang with Teddy, the British family unit'southward son. Unknowingly, Teddy gets a wee fleck besides close to the poisonous serpent, forcing Rikki-Tikki to fight it. Not that he wouldn't accept anyway. That'southward what mongooses practice, after all.

That dark, Naag and Nagaina plan a sneak attack on the British family, simply they haven't reckoned with Rikki-Tikki. In the ensuing boxing, Rikki-Tikki kills Naag, saving the family unit just also actually ticking off Nagaina. The adjacent 24-hour interval, Rikki sets a plan into motion to get rid of the cobras once and for all. He has Darzee'southward wife act as bait to continue Nagaina occupied. And so he heads to the cobra's nests and goes berserk on the eggs.

Only all doesn't get according to program. Nagaina sets out to kill Teddy, forcing Rikki to bring one of her eggs as leverage. In the ballsy disharmonism of mammal-versus-reptile, Nagaina manages to snatch up her egg and flees into her den. Rikki-Tikki gives her hot pursuit, while Darzee mourns the loss of Rikki-Tikki equally no ane goes into a cobra's den and lives.

Except for Rikki-Tikki, of course. He exits all activeness-hero style, and the family tin't praise him enough. He lives with the family from then on, protecting the garden from snakes.
